This is a good point. I’m a big proponent of *provider diversity*. Every cloud service you use should have a different login. Every piece of data you create should have an easily-accessible copy in your local file system. Everything on your computer should be backed up offsite with a separate cloud backup.
Do not put all your eggs into one cloud service basket. Do not use the same login for unrelated services. This rules out most of Apple’s cloud products for me.

I need to get a new smartphone since my Pixel 4a ran out of support already. 😞
I narrowed down my options to three devices that fit my requirements.
The Pixel 8a seems to be cheaper and even better compared to the 8.
I won't use games or any of the AI stuff nor Google cloud services. Therefore, I guess that Tensor 4 of the Pixel 9 won't provide much benefit to me.
Unfortunately, the #Pixel

Look at the state of this.
LARUS Ltd sitting on AFRINIC IP addresses but leasing them to a company in Hong Kong and then when they receive an abuse report for THEIR IP ADDRESSES they don't even handle it but say "contact our customer". That's not how this is supposed to work. It's not how any of this is supposed to work.
Absolute scum carpetbaggers.

A screenshot of an email reading:

Kindly be informed that, LARUS Limited is a company that merely provides a leasing services of IP addresses to customers (i.e. Internet Service Providers, Cloud Providers and many other types of companies/entities/organisations which requires IP Addresses for their businesses from technology and telecommunication sectors). In general, never have your data exist only in one place. Cloud storage is fine, as long as you have another copy somewhere else. The second copy could also be in the cloud; it just needs to be in some other provider’s cloud.
The key is *duplication* and elimination of single points of failure, as much as possible.

Afsaneh Mahanipour, Hana Khamfroush
arxiv.org/abs/2404.19114 arxiv.org/pdf/2404.19114
arXiv:2404.19114v1 Announce Type: new
Abstract: The integration of Internet of Things (IoT) applications in our daily lives has led to a surge in data traffic, posing significant security challenges. IoT applications using cloud and edge computing are at higher risk of cyberattacks because of the expanded attack surface from distributed edge and cloud services, the vulnerability of IoT devices, and challenges in managing security across interconnected systems leading to oversights. This led to the rise of ML-based solutions for intrusion detection systems (IDSs), which have proven effective in enhancing network security and defending against diverse threats. However, ML-based IDS in IoT systems encounters challenges, particularly from noisy, redundant, and irrelevant features in varied IoT datasets, potentially impacting its performance. Therefore, reducing such features becomes crucial to enhance system performance and minimize computational costs. This paper focuses on improving the effectiveness of ML-based IDS at the edge level by introducing a novel method to find a balanced trade-off between cost and accuracy through the creation of informative features in a two-tier edge-user IoT environment. A hybrid Binary Quantum-inspired Artificial Bee Colony and Genetic Programming algorithm is utilized for this purpose. Three IoT intrusion detection datasets, namely NSL-KDD, UNSW-NB15, and BoT-IoT, are used for the evaluation of the proposed approach.
